HumanKIND
I’ve been watching "Sign Guy"
(the guy that holds the Metro PCS sign) for few days now. He has created an
amazing bond with a mentally challenged guy that we have
nicknamed "Friend." He’s always smiling and singing… happy. There are a few times
that we’ve heard "Friend" walk by cursing about something that happened at his
job. I’m sure there are many people that try to take advantage of him which
frustrates him. Understandable. The old sign guy also allowed a relationship between the two to
build but it was kind of different. He would talk with Friend but then put his
earbuds in after a while. Then he left… he went on to work full-time at his
other job. Friend seemed a bit lost after his leaving. There have been at least
3 other sign guys since, this one makes the 4th for Metro PCS and the 1st
that friend has been able to befriend. "Sign Guy" seems to actually listen to
Friend. He’s excited to see "Friend" coming. They even do this fist bump thing every time; greeting and departing . Today "Sign Guy" entrusted "Friend" to watch
his sign while he went across the street to Piggly Wiggly to get lunch. I’m
not sure if they knew each other previously but it appears that way. Either way
I think it’s the most amazing thing ever! Humility. I’ve seen
people walk by "Friend" and not even acknowledge him. I've seen "Friend" walk over to people and try to start a conversation only receive their back turned to him. Witnessing the genuine
kindness that "Sign Guy" shows him is refreshing. "Sign Guy" doesn’t judge Friend,
he doesn’t shun him away he respects him and views him as an equal. How amazing
could this world be if we all did that? It doesn’t costs anything to be
friendly, to guide, to support or to nurture. It’s free. It’s simple. It’s
beautiful. It's kind.
