Get In Formation
Today it’s raining, yessss!! I’m covering
the front desk for the office coordinator, which I enjoy doing. There are six large windows
(perfect for people watching) and for the most part it is pretty peaceful. Today
the geese are in the parking lot once again. I’m not sure why they love to be
out there but they come throughout the day. Lately they’ve been coming at least
twice a day to the same little patch of grass. They will gather beneath the tree and eat
whatever it is that they eat. I am amazed at the fact that they will not leave the area
until “the leader” walks away. Geese fascinate me in general; everything that
they do is to encourage the next goose. While in flight they will honk to
encourage the geese in front of them to keep the pace. If a goose gets sick
while in flight two other geese will fall out of formation to follow it as it
lands. They will stay with it to help
and protect it. Whenever the leader goose gets tired it will drop to the back
of the formation, which allows another goose to lead the flock. Geese are the
ultimate encouragers; they understand the importance of teamwork. If only we
could be like geese. If only we shared a similar sense of community, there’s no
telling how far we each would be able to fly.
